The Cabaravers are back! The Halloween Special comes to the Volks Bar & Club on Tues 31 Oct, so get ready to turn in your grave…
Their secret potion for success sees a blend of the creative juices of a festival, brimming with the best of Brighton’s performers, the founders of Cabarave know exactly which ingredients make for a memorable night out. True to form, the team are honouring the sign of Scorpio – the intense, brooding lovers of darkness. If you’re born under this spooky sign, you’ll be treated to a free shot too. Never ones to disappoint, expect glitter, fun bounce-able DJs, the Cabaravers interactive walkabout performance, stalls with wonderful and weird trinkets, giant lamp shades and good vibes all round.
This time around, they’ve enticed renowned ghetto-funk producer and DJ Father Funk from Bristol down for the night’s celebrations, as well as a host of local gems playing a mix of genres throughout the night. Three live performances are staggered throughout which will leave you feeling tickled, intrigued and probably a little bit strange…
Curators Esme, Nina and Jerome love to dress up, so can be found spending the day before the event up ladders transforming the Volks into a Moroccan bazaar. Their army of loyal Cabaravers love to dress up too, so Halloween is the perfect excuse to raid the fancy dress box. There’s even a prize for the best dressed reveller, so grab your fangs and fake blood. This time round, the line up really is spookily good. Featuring the scream of the Brighton circuit, check out the talent below:
Our Father… Who lays down funk.. is here for a 90 minute special set! Pioneering his own unique brand of funky electronic party music, mash ups and eclectic DJ sets, Bristol based DJ and Producer Father Funk has been making waves on the international circuit since 2011 – and he’s still only 23!
He’s shared a stage with Opiuo, A.Skillz, Featurecast, Stickybuds and Slynk, won Best Breakthrough DJ and Best Free Track at Breakspoll, and even curated his own night – Father Funk’s Church of Love. It now has it’s own stage at one of the country’s best small festivals, Shindig Weekender. He’s been busy releasing a slew of remixes, EPs, and most recently, an original album on his own label Funk Therapy. Currently fresh back from his sixth Canadian tour, he’s working on his second album (as well as a tonne of other releases). Father Funk is certainly one to watch in 2018!
Keep your eyes and ears open for the likes of genre destroyer and Boomtown legend SHILLIN who is ready to get the crowd pumped up and dex like an instrument; a multi-genre set full of bass, naughty remixes, scratching and more bass from TURTLE; a monster mash up with a tropical twist from CHICHA MORADA; and one third of the Cabarave production team lets the darkest passageways of her iTunes library come to light, with horrifyingly enjoyable consequences – DJ CANT SAY NO.
And look out for some outstanding acts throughout the night including…
SIRONA THORNEYCROFT giving “a gripping tribute performance to the women of the Salem witch trials who, though facing execution, were resilient to the end.”
NEIL POINTS the ‘none hit wonder’ who dared to dream of Eurovision success despite being from a country that never existed, speaking a language only he understands now tours the world desperately clinging to a prize he never won, destined to only ever achieve “nil points”.
