If you’ve seen season 1 (and All Stars 1) of RuPaul’s Drag Race, you’ll remember the off-beat charm of Tammie Brown. We caught up with her ahead of her Komedia show on Tues 7 Nov, to see what she’s been up to since the show, with some curveballs thrown in for good measure. As Tammie famously said:

“You wanted crazy? Well you got it now…”

Who helped influence and shape Tammie?

My Grandmother Rowe, Tina Turner, all the help from friends and fans. I’m always true to who I am and what moves this heart, mind, and the body I occupy.

Do you have any influencers or role models you look up to?

I’d say right now I like lot of philosophy – Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Native American Culture, Daisaku Ikeda… Even my yoga practice is molding my way…

What have you been up to this year?

I have been on the go this year, traveling both recreationally and for business. Making my #Ragqueenz which are my little soft sculpture dolls, each one of the #Ragqueenz is  individually hand crafted with love using my previously worn designer nylons – for all you kinky cats out there! I was at both RuPaul’s Drag Con LA and New York, and I’ve been working on new music.

How is your music career going?

My music is coming along well. I’m currently beginning my next album Schubert (the ‘T’ is silent. People really like my music all around the world, which is great for me know that I’m making something enjoyable.

It’s good to get out there and work with others create new friendships with colleagues and other artists.

Has RuPaul’s Drag Race helped your music career develop?

I would not say that it’s helped out my musical career. My musical career is still growing, so little by little I’m hoping to get my musical cabaret booked in Provincetown, Massachusetts next year.

I will say RuPaul‘s Drag Race has brought me international success and I’m sincerely appreciative of that.

Has the reception to drag changed since Trump’s administration?

Please! The Trumpster has done nothing for my life in drag. On the other hand, I have become politically conscious and will do my best for our global society.

Tips for anyone starting out with drag?

Be your own Queen!!

What advice would you give your younger self?

Hard question… keep being me.

What would your superpower be?

Making magic happen, simple as that.

If you were a crayon, what colour would you be and why?

Radiating bright yellow!

If you were an animal, what kind would you be and why?

My spirit animal is a horse, I am visited by the dragonfly… and if i was in the ocean I would be a dolphin. Preferably an orca.

Who, if anyone (excluding partner(s)!), would you marry if you had to right now?

No idea. That is big a deal… maybe I should marry some illegal immigrant just to help them stay in the USA.
